PANDEMIC RESPONSE 16 Jul

PANDEMIC RESPONSE

Now that we are four months into this Pandemic it looks like the TOUCH New Jersey Food Alliance has good control of the restrictions brought on by Covid 19 given the fact that we have continued to distribute food every week without dropping the ball even once and have not had a single instance of transmission of the virus. In and of itself that would be laudable, but TOUCH has risen the bar to an amazing height. Last week, the TOUCH New Jersey Food Alliance distributed over 40,000 pounds of food from its location in North Camden. That’s right, 40,000 pounds.
TOUCH is able to send families home with an average of 60 pounds of nutritious food including dairy, produce, meat, dry goods, bread and bakery. Much of this product is delivered by the three trailers that come to Camden each week and leave us with pallet after pallet of boxed food that is seamlessly distributed to our clients. So, while the North Camden indigenous are taken care of TOUCH has also teamed with Miguel’s Pharmacy in Cramer Hill every Tuesday and Wednesday where an average of 1500 pounds of food are distributed.

And all of this is in addition to the Freeholders of Camden County/TOUCH New Jersey Food Alliance partnership that rotates from the Camden County College to Antioch Baptist Church to St. Joseph’s Pro Cathedral every Friday, distributing dairy, fruit and vegetables to those in need. On a recent Friday 423 cars showed up to receive the goodies loaded into their trunks by a many  volunteers from the county, social media and word of mouth.

TOUCH’s response to the Pandemic is to excel in its effort to accomplish its mission to “fight hunger one person at a time.” These days, more and more families are benefiting as a result of that mission. We are extremely thankful for the additional food supplied by our major partner, Philabundance. It is only through their generosity and volunteers that TOUCH is able to feed so many in need. Please stay tuned for additional food events throughout the area.
